This isn’t really an experience I’ve had, though I could talk about some of those too. I wanted to call your attention to an article from today on WTOP’s website called, “Sexual assaults spike across the District.”
A quote from the story: “Some fear the spike in sexual assaults is worse than Lanier is saying. Sources tell WTOP internal police memos show serious sexual assaults in the Seventh District are up by 325 percent for the first 6 months of 2010. ” — The Seventh District, which is east of the Anacostia and Potomac rivers, is by reputation a rougher neighborhood, but there is still no excuse for a 325% increase in the rate of sexual assualts.

Finally, it seems somebody is taking time to notice the alarming trends of sexual assault in the area.
One thing that bothers me is that it seems like every time I refresh my Google Reader there is another post from this blog! Which is good in the fact that women are coming forward about the issue, but frustrating that there are still so many stories to tell. I’d like to say thanks, Holla Back DC for calling attention to this issue and encouraging women to take a stand. Keep up the great work!
