Harassed by a District Employee

I was walking to the Metro this morning when a District meal delivery van drove by. A young man with dreads leaned out the window and shouted “MMM baby!” at me. In response I made a face and curled my lip, prompting him to yell “UGH baby!” I had forgotten that the very worst thing a woman can do to a man is make herself look unattractive to him. It takes away the pleasure from objectifying. I walked on un-phased, but surprised that the comically image conscious Fenty would allow District employees to think this behavior was acceptable.

  1. As a District taxpayer, I’m appalled by this behavior of somebody whose salary I help fund. If the original poster hasn’t reported this to the DC government yet, I will.

It wasn’t about you being “unattractive” at all. These “men” have pathetically weak egos and if you rebuff their advances they’ll go from catcalling to insulting in seconds. It has nothing to do with you, it’s all about their pitiful need to put a woman down who doesn’t give them the time of day.

I agree with Josef. This guy needs to be reported and guys like this who don’t care about professionalism on their jobs need not be hired for them to begin with.

  3. i dont agree with GS on the size of their egos, or really second guessing that all men share the same reasons for doing what they do.

but this should definitely be reported.
