Assault Near Friendship Heights Metro

On the evening of March 18, after 11:00 pm, I was walking home from the Friendship Heights metro west along Western Avenue, about 1.5 blocks from the metro, when I heard footsteps behind me and then felt a hand up my skirt touching me on my genitals. The man, an African American in his 20s-30s with close cropped hair and a little taller than me (5’8″ maybe) came around to my side and said something, like he was talking sweet to me.

I thought he was going to pull me off into the bushes by the Geico building and rape me. Luckily I had my wits about me and starting screaming and running away. Cars stopped to help, and the DC police came and took my report. It turned out that the man had fled when I was trying to stop cars to help me. Because it happened so quickly I could not give the police a fuller description of how the man looked besides what I am stating here. Please if you live in this neighborhood, be careful, or if you have had something similar happen anywhere in the city, please post here and call DC police and speak to Detective Carmichael. He has not been found yet.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear this happened to you! I hope they catch this guy. Kudos to you for causing a ruckus and defending yourself!

  2. I thought I was being paranoid after reading this, but on April 15 at 11 pm, I left the Friendship Heights Metro Station (exit towards Western Ave, the bus station exit) and headed towards Clyde’s. I walked past a man matching the extremely general physical description, he started walking up to me, talking to me and saying inappropriate things. I remembered this post and headed right into Wisconsin Ave and got in a cab that happened to be stopped at the red light.

Was it the same guy? Who knows? But I’ve lived in the area for 3+ years and have never had anyone say “Boo!” to me, so that’s why I was concerned.

Thanks to SJG for sharing this.

  3. this guy’s on a roll. a man matching the same description approached me yesterday on wisconsin & western.

  4. Now I’m freaked out by the guy dressed totally in black sitting on a public bench in an unlit area next to my building in that same area at 10:45 this evening. It has to be the same guy. Time to finally buy pepper spray I guess.
